December is voor velen een maand van vragen en bevraagd worden. De feestdagen komen eraan. Nog even en de kerstlichtjes branden. Wat vragen we? Wat geven we? Vaak is geven gemakkelijker dan vragen.
Geven zet je immers in een positie van macht. Vragen daarentegen is in je kwetsbaarheid gaan staan. Ik vraag en daarmee stel ik me open. Ik vraag en daarmee zet ik de ander in een positie om mijn vraag eventueel af te wijzen, of om die vraag op een andere manier in te vullen dan wat ik hoop te ontvangen. Toch ligt er een enorme kracht in het vragen, als we leren te vragen zonder te verwachten. Want elke verwachting is gestoeld op dat wat we al kennen, terwijl dat bekende misschien niet is wat we echt nodig hebben in onze groei, in onze zoektocht naar onszelf. Ik vraag, ik plaats een intentie, en dan aanschouw ik. Ik kijk. Ik verwacht niets. Ik wacht niet. Ik vertrouw erop dat dat wat gebeurt of niet gebeurt, juist is zoals het is. Ik ga in de overgave.

In onze huidige maatschappij wordt het woord overgave vaak foutief geïnterpreteerd als luiheid of zelfs apathie. Nochtans ligt er in de overgave een enorme kracht. Want elke vorm van verwachting creëert spanning, en van zodra we verwachtingen loslaten, ontstaat er dus ontspanning. En ruimte. Ruimte om te ademen, te aanschouwen, en dan merken we dat er altijd wel een antwoord komt op onze vraag, alleen niet in de vorm of binnen de tijd die wij verwachten. Dat is vertrouwen.
Leren vragen, ook om zorg vragen, is dus leren vertrouwen. En wat een kracht schuilt er in vertrouwen! We vertrouwen erop dat waar het leven ons nu heeft gebracht, juist is. Dat er maar één weg vooruit is. De weg van vertrouwen in het leven zelf als onze enige gids. We hebben ‘Het Leven’ maar te vragen om ons de weg te wijzen. En soms hebben we daarbij metgezellen nodig. Professionelen of mensen uit de eigen kring.
